More Activities in Gustavus & Glacier Bay Alaska

Camping in Glacier Bay Park is an unforgettable experience.
|
Camping
There is only one actual campground with designated camping sites in the Gustavus area and its located right on the Glacier Bay Park lodge grounds.
You can check out the Glacier Bay National Park link for booking information and the park rules on building fires.
As for non-designated areas to camp... there are thousands... all over! You just have to go out of view of someones place and off private property.
Please be a responsible camper. Be careful with your fires and pack out what you packed in.
Treat the earth as if it were your own front yard and respect all the forms of life you may encounter.
Flightseeing
Arguably, there is no grander place on earth to Flightsee than Glacier Bay National Park and Southeast Alaska.
No where else can you experience 15,000 foot glaciated peaks and thousands of miles of roadless wilderness. Flying is the only true
way to see Alaska and grasp the magnitude of it's impenetrable wilderness. In addition to amazing Glacier Bay, the Tongass National forest and the outer coast of Alaska are equally impressive...
On this page we list several flightseeing specialists
who make their living out of flying around Southeast Alaska. Fly by the hour or by the destination... the choice is all yours. These custom air charters will take you anywhere you want to go in style and with safety as their utmost concern.
Note: These flight service companies also offer direct flying routes for transporting you to your Southeast Alaskan destination for competitive prices.

Mountain Biking
Gustavus is an excellent area for mountain biking, but with a limited amount of trails to enjoy. The wild nature of the area makes it one of the more picturesque places you'll ever have a chance to ride, and yet the area doesn't have many maintained trails.
A few locals enjoy riding these trails along with the beaches in the area for fun and health. It is also quite common to see locals getting around town by bike as a form of basic transportation.
Within the Glacier Bay Park borders themselves, there is basically no where to ride due to its lack of trails and remote nature. One would have his work cut out for him to try riding in the park. It would basically come down to bushwacking with a bicycle in your hand, so its not the most popular activity, but you can always just bring your bike and tool around Gustavus...
Cross Country Skiing
Gustavus is a winter wonderland full of excellent cross country skiing opportunities. Obviously, this is an activity that happens in the winter months only and thats when there are no tourists around... so... if you're interested in skiing this area, your best bet is to consult with the locals to get the best tips on the snow and trails.
Paintball
Gustavus has a number of paintball enthusiasts... Information on the games as soon as we can get them.
