A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

Centrally located and easily found right off the Glacier Bay National Park road, the Great Alaska Husky Ranch is a unique place to be sure and offers experiences unlike any other you'll find in Gustavus...

While visiting, you can take a Kennel Tour and meet Real Alaskan Sled Dogs as well as see actual Dog Sledding Demonstrations. The willing and adventurous can take their Mushing interests one step further and actually get to "Mush the Team".

Owners, Chris & Marilyn Trump, are fourth generation descendents of one of the first Gustavus Homesteaders, and have lots of that wonderful Alaskan Charm and great stories to tell of their many adventures in mining and mushing! They are true specialists in dog care and training.

You'll also love the Dog Sledding Museum as well as take home a souvenir of your trip from the well stocked and quality Alaskan theme gift shop.

MUSHING THE TEAM
Although the serious Dog Mushing takes place in the fall and winter months when the weather is cooler and snow is on the ground, visitors can take the dogs out for a Mush in the summer months on our own Husky Ranch track. (the sleds run on wheels rather than skis).

This is a great activity for the whole family to enjoy- thrilling yet completely safe- a must do for all dog lovers or those wishing to see what Mushing is all about.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DOGS
The Great Alaska Husky Ranch is a dog lover's paradise.

Most of the magnificent dogs at the ranch are Mackenzie River Huskies. These are a special breed of Native Alaskan Village Dogs. There function was to be able to pull heavy weighted sleds in the transport of people and goods.

In looks, they are very wolf like in the color of their coats but they are also a very gentle and hard working dog. They are usually larger and long legged compared to most Huskies.

We also have 2 magnificent Siberian Huskies on the team. One is named Don Juan, who played Demon in the Disney movie Snow Dogs and now is in the new Disney Movie, Eight Below, starring as "Max", and the other is named Neyomok.

His name comes from the Native American language meaning "to be lucky". He is originally from the famous Wuffda Kennels in Anchor Point, Alaska.

DOG SLEDDING MUSEUM

On the ranch we have a unique museum of local Gustavus history and dog sledding. You'll see a real Iditarod Dog Sled, authentic Mushing Gear and lots more interesting items from Alaska's rich history!
