More Activities in Gustavus & Glacier Bay Alaska

Camping in Glacier Bay Park is an unforgettable experience.
|
Camping
There are 2 "official campgrounds" in the Gustavus area (if we
define a campground as an area with actual designated legal
camping spots with access to basic services like fresh water, bathrooms,
and restrooms).
One of them is located right
on the Glacier Bay Park lodge grounds and is managed by the park
and subject to its rules..
You can check out the Glacier
Bay National Park link for campsite booking information and
the park rules on building fires.
The other camping alternative is a new campground in the heart
of Gustavus- see below for more information...
As for non-designated areas to camp...
there are thousands... all over! You just have to go out of view
of someones place and off private property- but of course when
you do that, dont expect any bathrooms or showers!
No matter where you decide its best for you and your personal style
to camp, please be a responsible camper. Be careful with your
fires and pack out what you packed in. Treat the earth as if it
were your own front yard and respect all the forms of life you
may encounter.

(This campground is managed by the same people that run
the Fairweather Golf Course and Budget Rentals)
For those wanting
to camp in Gustavus, the Seaside Tent Campground is located
on an approximate acre of open field and surrounded by mountains.
This lovely campground is located in the heart of Gustavus,
(next to the Golf course). Amenities of the camping area include
access to hot showers and restrooms, a fire ring (great for parties!)
with benches, and fresh water.
It also has car access, meaning you can drive your gear
close to your tenting area, and is within walking distance
to the "city center" of Gustavus (4 Corners), and most
of the stores and shopping Gustavus offers...
Other features of this charming campground include its close proximity
to miles of sandy beaches, spectacular views, golfing, and nearby
trout and salmong fishing!
Rates are $20.00/ per nite/ per site.
Flightseeing
Arguably, there is no grander place on earth to Flightsee than Glacier Bay National Park and Southeast Alaska.
No where else can you experience 15,000 foot glaciated peaks and
thousands of miles of roadless wilderness. Flying is the only true
way to see Alaska and grasp the magnitude of it's impenetrable
wilderness. In addition to amazing Glacier Bay, the Tongass National
forest and the outer coast of Alaska are equally impressive...
Fly by the hour or by the destination across Southeast Alaska- the choice is yours. The custom air charters on our Getting Here & Around page will take you anywhere you want to go in style and with safety as their utmost concern.

Mountain Biking
Gustavus is an excellent area for mountain biking, but with a limited amount of trails to enjoy.
The wild nature of the area makes it one of the more picturesque places you'll ever have a chance to ride, and yet the area doesn't have many maintained trails.
A few locals enjoy riding these trails along with the beaches in the area for fun and health. It is also quite common to see locals getting around town by bike as a form of basic transportation.
Within the Glacier Bay Park borders themselves, there is basically no where to ride due to its lack of trails and remote nature. One would have his work cut out for him to try riding in the park. It would basically come down to bushwacking with a bicycle in your hand, so its not the most popular activity, but you can always just bring your bike and tool around Gustavus...
Cross Country Skiing
Gustavus is a winter wonderland full of excellent cross country skiing opportunities. Obviously, this is an activity that happens in the winter months only and thats when there are no tourists around... so... if you're interested in skiing this area, your best bet is to consult with the locals to get the best tips on the snow and trails.
Health & Healing Services
